gnutmeg: (dangerous)

occupational hazard

Ever since about the age of 7 I've collected glass bottles. And though the occasional cleaning binge by my mother has forced me to restart the collection a few times, I still have managed to keep a good 3 dozen or so bottles.

There's just something about glass that attracts me. It's so fragile and yet so dangerous and still completely useful.

Anyway. I have all these bottles, and have had them for years, but I bet everyone's wondering what I plan to do with them.

Well, simply put, as soon as I'm in my own place (so my mother won't freak) I'll break them all (so there's big pieces) then sand the sharp edges off and use the pieces to make mobiles.

My mother is one of those who thinks you need store-bought materials to make art. I'm one of those ones who thinks that the light refracting off an oddly shaped curve of broken glass is intoxicatingly beautiful.

I'm an artist who's favourite mediums are broken glass and wire.

<EDIT> And, since I'm bored, this meme that I've seen about a bazillion times now:
If you call me nutmeg then you've got it right.
If you call me Nut-Meg, Nutty-Meg, Nuttiest of Megs, Meg-Nut or any variation there of you went to highschool with me.
If you call me nutmeggy, you are Nani
If you call me Gnut or Gnutmeg, you are John or Jen
If you call me by various petnames in different languages, you are John
If you call me Jessica I will kick your ass you know my real name or have recieved/sent a package from/to me
If you call me Jessy you are April, Lili, Erin or my mother trying to suck up
If you call me Jess you probably went to University with me or worked at camp with me
If you call me bitch you are John or Applicant 17.5
If you call me Meg you obviously mistakenly think that nutmeg is short for Megan
If you call me lirimaer, you probably have only just met me on LJ
If you call me liri-chan, you're probably japanese obsessed and greatly hurting my language sensibility. (if anything, make it "lili" or "riri" since l and r are the same letter in japanese! Or, alternately use 'lirima-chan' as the name is Sindarin and does not split just down the middle >.o)
If you call me Nutmeg, you have just made me twitch and bite my tongue so I don't flip at you.
If you call me koibito, you're my Kia-muffin-head.
If you call me net-mommy or motherbrain, you're Ruby or Nani.
If you call me Gnomey or To-chan, you're Ruby.
If you call me Ami Megara then you've known me a long time.
If you call me Riberu, you've known me as long as I've been on the net.

...I'll stop now >.o But I could keep going a long time. </EDIT>

I made one when I was in highschool... it was so gorgeous, but I gave it to the teacher. I also make sculptures out of broken mirror when I get the chance. The only problem working in glass is the weight. The materials I use aren't exactly the lightest of things so you must also find creative ways of stringing them together and hanging them.

. . . would you consider maybe talking me through something like that, with a mirror? It sounds breathtaking already.
