I'm currently quite glad I'm Canadian

Hearing many not-so-happy things about the U.S. this morning. Sadly, although I did hope for better, I'm not terribly surprised.

"Welcome to the land of freedom and opportunity." Yes, where gays have the freedom not to marry. And everyone has the opportunity to parade down the street armed. Forgive the bitter sarcasm, but I really have issues with some American laws. I'm just glad none of the Americans on my flist are like some of the morons I've had the misfortune to meet.

...out of random curiousity, anyone want to tell me what "manifest destiny" means? I know, but I'm curious if anyone else does.

I agree, some American laws are stupid, I'm still royally annoyed by the no Gay marriage, also in my state Civil unions will no longer be reecognized now. *throws things*

Anyway, "Manifest Destiny" was the "God given right to expand westward into new territories" at least, that's what I remember from US history 2 years ago.

Oh well... I'm currently quite glad to be Spanish, you know. I could give so many reasons... did you know that my country was a dictatorship less than 30 years ago? Look at America right now... do you know what it is? Is "la tiranía de la mayoría", the tyranny of the majority, which is so not the same as democracy.
This makes me so mad, and I could rant about it so much... so I'll just switch to a safer topic, and ask you about that English speech you're writing... how's it going?

LMAO!
Yeah I agree. Some are just plain stupid and lack common sense.
To make things worse you should see what the US Government is doing to the Native American/Indians... again. *rolls eyes* And they wonder why the Natives don't trust the government.
I think the Gay marriage thing is all messed up. Marriage to me is a state of mind and heart. Between two souls... the souls cannot help which vessel they are in and who in the hell are we to say who another person can love.
And to the Christians(some-no offense. i just have questions on some of the stuff) if God does not make mistakes.. who gives you the power to judge and demoralize them? GWBUSH had a payperview special this weekend. O.O like I would pay to see that. The subject was how his Christian Faith helped him through the white house. O.O;
Over the past few years the US has had some pretty shitty rules... It seems to keep getting worse. "land of the free"--> yeah right. They are even dictating who you can love now. O.O;
Ok sorry, to fill this with my rantings.
I guess that the election is just stupid in most sense...

peace!

Manifest Destiny -- Not just the right, but the heavenly ordained DESTINY of America to spread, at the very least, from 'sea to shining sea'. I don't remember Mexico and Canada in the original definition, but they were definitely on the list of Places to Take Over. Feh. Welcome to the land of the Free, White, Rich, Heterosexual Male.

I stayed up all last night to watch the polls, hopeful but not expectant. You'd think people would grow some common sense in four years, but apparently not.

I hate the government and the electoral college. I hate the Gay marriage law. It's one of the stupidest in American history, and we've had a lot of stupid laws.

On Manifest Destiny -- I remember the Westward expansion part, and how it was a "God-given right" for America... I guess the Canada and Mexico part makes sense to me since they were French and Spanish colonies at the time... Or am I getting my time periods mixed up?

On the same-sex marriage amendments -- Only eleven states voted on that. And yes, all of them passed it, the bastards. So now they have amended their state constitutions to ban a basic right. And of course MY state was one of the homophobic states... >___<++++ Makes me wanna scream.
