Day 10 - Create a fanwork.

Well, I've been making icons like crazy, and will happily keep requests open... ah, pretty much always lol I'm currently watching an episode of Critical Role to grab a few images from the game for a request. I'd heard of it before but this is the first time I've actually watched any of it. More of a listener than a watcher, though, does anyone know if there's a podcast version?

Anyway, to change up from icons like mad, how about a playlist, inspired by darling ms Danvers?

Made to Fly from missgnutmeg on 8tracks Radio.

comments

Just dug through snowflake challenge day 6, offering graphics (and a few friend twigs) to answer wishes. Kinda fun, but I'm tired so that's enough for now.

Some Han and Leia icons, since I was on a Star Wars kick yesterday:
01- 02- 03- ( the rest )

comments

Every time I update a fic, I'm reminded of the others I have left unfinished for one reason or another. Okay, let's be honest. The main reason is exhaustion. Despite having what seems like all the time in the world, I'm so often exhausted that I don't really feel like doing much. And that goes mentally and physically. Actually, the mental exhaustion is worse. That said, if I have a fic going you want to see finished? Poke me. Hold me accountable. I have only so much energy, so don't let me be distracted by the new shinies.

My shoulder is terribly sore lately. I think I pulled it sometime last week and then re-pulled it when babysitting my sister's wee ones. M tried to work it out a bit during Tai Chi yesterday, but I kept tightening up when she touched me. (Which is why massages don't work on me. I freak and get all tense.)

( day 8 )

comments

and some catch up :x 4, 5, 6

Comment to someone you haven't ever interacted with before or introduce yourself to someone you've interacted with and friend/follow them.
Well, since I recently migrated over to DW officially, I've been on a lot of friending comms and memes and that's how I've met many of you! Hello! I'm glad to meet some new friends and I hope we can bond beyond fandom related things. (No, This isn't cheating :P)

In your own space, promote three communities, challenges, blogs, pages, Twitters, Tumblrs or platforms and explain why you love them.
Oh man. Tough. Uh. Well, I love following people who post old comics. Like, beyond love. Here are some of my favourites off tumblr:
theartofthecover - as the name says, this is all comic covers. Mostly Marvel. There are some amazing old covers and artwork out there that just don't get seen, but you see them here. They also did a crazy amazing tribute to Stan Lee on his death, worth searching for

caroldanverspanels - all Captain Marvel all the time, lots of the really old Ms Marvel in the red/black uniform. Great for learning the origins of the character

justdealingwithsomeissues - going through the Marvel archive in over. With just the occasional snarky comment. Amazing. Also really sweet to talk to, should you find an excuse

Day 6 - In your own space, create a list of at least three fannish things you'd love to receive, something you've wanted but were afraid to ask for - a fannish wish-list of sorts. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your wish-list if you feel comfortable doing so. Maybe someone will grant a wish. Check out other people's posts. Maybe you will grant a wish. If any wishes are granted, we'd love it if you link them to this post.

1) Gift fic - I've gotten this before, but it's always an honour and great pleasure. Especially when people hit on some of my favourite niche things (dark fairy tales, my rare pairs, fic that makes me cry, erotic zones, secrets and lies, redemption, sacrifice)

2) Fanart of my fic - but who doesn't love that?

3) Talking to fans - I love when someone who's read one of my fic approaches and starts talking! I've made a lot of friends this way. (Or by being the talkier, ngl). Come say hi, I don't bite hard unless you're into that. XD

comments

How to Write a "Thousand Year Fic" like Starligh

How to Write a "Thousand Year Fic" like Starlight by nutmeg

( in 5 simple steps! )

Yup. That's it. Fic for fun. AKA The never ending soap opera. XD If you like Marvel and rarepairs, feel from to come on over and see what we're doing in Starlight. We're legit a year behind in editing largely due to my being sick. (When you are exhausted 99% of the time, it can be really hard to focus on editing, let me tell you.) But there's so much there. We've been doing this for years and don't plan to stop any time soon. Perhaps never! lol

comments

Day 3

In your own space, share a favorite piece of original canon (a TV episode, a song, a favorite interview, a book, a scene from a movie, etc) and explain why you love it so much.

Oh man, I'm going to have to talk about Lexx here, I think. For the 99% of y'all who've never heard of it, Lexx is a 90s sci-fi show that was co-produced in Canada and Germany and is completely and utterly ridiculous.

The basis of the show is two prisoners: a woman who was transformed into a love slave followed by the head of the robot who got her brainwashing, and an intelligence prisoner turned incompetent security guard accidentally steal an advanced living ship (shaped like a dragonfly and very dumb) with a living symbiote key. The reanimated assassin sent to get them accidentally regains his memory joins their side. And suddenly they have to save the universe.

Amazing, right? It's definitely a dark comedy, so lots of hilarious deaths. And it's definitely not pg.

One of the catch phrases in the show is "The dead do not..." And it's pretty funny what they finish it off with.

Each character is surprisingly well rounded for a mostly comedy, and there's some very deep and touching moments. "What does it mean to be human" is a theme that comes up a lot, and a longtime favourite theme of mine. The theme of evil vs incompetence also comes up frequently, and though they make it funny there is definitely something to think about.

Oh, and there's an amazing musical episode.

At the end of the day, though, it's all character driven. The bright and unique characters is what drives the plot and what makes the show what it is. Stan, the pilot, former security guard and maybe traitor? Zev turned Xev, the lonely love slave. Kai, the dead assassin. 7-90, psychotic robot head in love. It's a good sob.

2) Fairytales and Other Forms of Suicide - actually just a friendship but a really good, solid telling of the building of it in a world gone mad. Amazing.

3) Petrichor - Arya puts so much research and detail, I doubt she'll ever finish this, but what she does have is incredible. It will keep you up reading for a week.

And a shoutout for an awesome team effort by my2browneyes and hamsandwichwoman: A Spider, A Devil, and A Pack of Dogs and it's sequel A Spider, A Devil, and a Viper for the even rarer Daredevil/Spider Woman. We may have few fics, but they're satisfying!

comments

a proper new year's post

Okay, that's a bit of a lark. I did want to share one thing, though. Every year I (try to) make myself a play list that sort of describes how the year went in music. Then I can go back and listen and remember, as it were. This is this years. Enjoy, if you want.

One Poor Correspondant from missgnutmeg on 8tracks Radio.

comments

Hope everyone's holidays have gone well. We ended up have two turkey dinners as mum and aunt Jo can't compromise. Or because my sis was out of town the 25th and my aunt's son-in-law was in town that day. Either way, two full turkey dinners. I am, needless to say, a bit sick of the roast and leftovers already. Mind, as I've been trying to eat more and more vegetarian such an pro-meat meal is not my favourite to begin with. Not that I plan to give up meat completely, I just think I eat too much of it. It should be more 3-4 times a week, not that much a week as my mum seems to prefer.

Best gifts this year include sassy new boots (red with rainbow insets~ <3!), and Avengers Munchkin. Now to start up a game.

sewn mentioned the show Miss Sherlock in an entry and it sounds interesting, but it's not on HBO here apparently (yet?), so I'm going to have to check Amazon and Netflix. Then bug my brother since I haven't dled anything like that in years. I still buy CDs and DVDs like the music store former employee loser I am.

Going to see Into the Spiderverse with Bex tomorrow. Never a huge Spider-Man fan, but I think it'll be fun with the extended spiders. Just sucks that Jess Drew isn't in it. She my homegirl. Spider Women >>>>> Spider Guys always! lol

Had a 2.5 hour qigong session yesterday. That felt pretty good. I know I'm more working on my 6 words and 8 brocade, but I need to remember to start bringing my notebook in to write down some of the more complicated exorcises. And print myself out an image of the Chinese acupuncture points to help me with visualization in meditations.

Been feeling super crafty lately too. Got my hands on some UV resin off ebay. Just trying to figure out the best way to get it to work now. The description said it dried in sunlight, but it definitely did NOT when I tried. Will have to borrow mum's UV lamp and try again.

comments

I threatened to do it, so I am: my good buddies and co-authors/editors my2browneyes and hamsandwichwoman have finally joined DW, so if you're looking for a few more friends why not say hi?

We had a family party for my sis' birthday yesterday. We made a pitcher of sangria and I was silly enough to have not one but two glasses. With all my heavy meds, that was not a good plan. Luckily because it was only wine, it faded off once we had supper. (Chinese <3)

Finished my Christmas cookie orders off with the last picked up yesterday. All I have left is the creme brulee I'm making for my friend for the 25th. Which will probably actually happen today since we're having dinners both the 24th and 25th, because aunt Jo. Then again... fridge space?

I'm really nervous about the present we got for my mum and dad. We bought new dining room chairs, since 2 of the 4 have already died and the others aren't in the best condition. My mum is just the type to be over critical about everything. Especially since she's in so much pain with her knee right now. If she had a better doctor, she'd probably already be scheduled for surgery. With this one, she's had to fight for pain meds and handicap parking. Mind, she's stubborn about even using her cane. And the net surgery would likely be a replacement. She's not eager for that. Ramble aside, yeah. I hope she likes them and doesn't just complain that she doesn't need them.

Ah, family can be stressful. Breathe in 4 seconds, hold 8, out 4 seconds, hold 8. Repeat.

This is meant to be the holiday to celebrate returning light and warmth. Allow the to grow inside you as well.

comments

So the batch of cookies for the second order for tomorrow only just came out. I meant to have them out and at least the first layer of icing two days ago, but it's been a week.

Yesterday was therapy followed by babysitting the nephew (and dear Vic is both teething and crawling right now so that can be a headache and a half) and then I ended up going to bar trivia with some of my friends since it's my last chance before Xmas to get them their gifts/baked goods baskets.

Therapy was spent largely discussing how to get through the holidays without increasing anxiety. My therapist suggested "empathizing" ie. If someone is excited about something say "you must be excited" and end the conversation there. I don't know, doesn't feel much like empathy to me.

I'm also not sure how I feel about her trying to coach me out of my natural habit of caretaker. It feels strange. I know it's in exchange for better self care but it still seems wrong in some ways. Don't all the greatest teachers teach us to act lovingly at all times? Though I suppose, to be loving to yourself first would be her argument. But that's hard. Really hard. I've never particularly liked myself.

On the plus side, weaning me off the abilify has decreased the random bouts of muscle stiffness. If this means I have to start a new drug again, though, I'm not thrilled. More new drugs in the last 6 months than in the 6 years before. I'm also experimenting with reducing the seroquel from 75 mg to 50 mg, since my sleep has gotten a lot better and I only wake up once or twice a night now. Between the drowsiness and 50lbs I've gained on this one, I really would like to reduce it. I'm going to try to book with a nutritionist over the holidays to work on a plan so I can shake that off. I've never been skinny, but this weight is scary.

I'm going to have to practice the new qigong meditation we did last we and calm myself down a bit. I swear, qigong is a lifesaver. I found out about it when looking up Tai Chi, and my class does both so I said "why not?" It's a combination of gentle exercise and meditation to work on the healing powers of your own internaly energy or chi/qi.

This meditation is really simple. It's best done while sitting on the floor. You put your right fingers over your left and themubs together then set those in your lap. If you're a beginner, like me, you imagine positive energy flows in with each breath, coming in at the top of your head. It pushes the negative energy out downward, into the earth where it can be cleansed. Repeat 36 times, or about 3~5 minutes if counting breaks your flow. At the end, envision all the fresh energy has settled in your dantian, which is three fingers below your belly button. This is where chi lives. You can imagine it as a tiny sun, warm and refreshing your entire self.

Tai Chi is based on the principles of qigong and the more practiced you get, the more you're moving from these lower energy centres instead of the muscles themselves. It's amazing to watch the 10+ year students move. They're so relaxed and smooth. Like watching the ocean.

comments

Not a great day to be without sleep. I've Tai Chi in an hour (though, really, that'll help) and I have to bake one last big batch of sugar cookies for orders. About a dozen orders over the month for Christmas cookies is not too shabby at all! Plus I'm finally allowed to work a little bit again. So I'll be going back to O&C, which I loved, part time. I'm only allowed 8 hours a week right now, but it's something.

Since I know there's many new friends - I have bipolar disorder and anxiety. By their powers combined, I also have severe insomnia. After an unfortunate couple of events at a place I was working at in Nunavut, I was badly triggered and now no longer sleep without medication but usually with. In this particular case, I didn't realize I was out of drugs. Boo. But I'm getting more today.

Just finished finally watching the third season of Sailor Moon Crystal. It's really different from the original anime, and I'm going to have to reread the manga again as I don't remember at all the purpose of the talismans in it. But the show seemed... all new? I don't know. Meanwhile, still hoping for that Sailor V show. ;)

I have a strong suspicion my window is leaking cold air and that's part of why this basement is so damned cold. Also why my lotus seeds haven't sprouted yet. May have to play mr fix it.

comments
