Ring around the rosies
a pocket full of posies
ashes, ashes
we all fall down
Rosies refers to the red cheeks of those with the plague, whom of course we'd walk in a wide ring around to avoid.
Posies were believed to keep the plague away from one who carried them.
Ashes? The funeral pyre, of course.
And, in the end, we all fall down. To die.
Now I lay me down to sleep
I pray the Lord my sould to keep
and if I die before I wake
I pray the Lord my soul to take
I just love what Christianity teaches children. "Pray every night, because you might not be here tomorrow."
Ok... I'm done being morbid.
