gnutmeg: (crown of thorns)
You know, I think I've figured out why the US, as a country, is self-centred.

It's because they leave all the u's out. No, really, follow with me here.

Just look at these words:
     colour ~> color
     neighbour ~> neighbor

By leaving out the u, one creates an oppositional or instead of an inclusive our. This leads to the belief that only one way of thinking can be right. It's my way or your way instead of our ways.

It's also a well-known fact that human beings don't like to feel that they are incorrect. So if you have to choose only one way, better make it your own, right?

But we actually live in a diverse world with many styles of thought. There is more than one path to get to any destination. And, just maybe, by pooling our resources we can find a better one. That might just be the humanitarian in me that comes with growing up Canadian, though. I live in a mindset of celebrating our differences.

...just a thought, of course. Then again, my brain is currently addled by nightmares which have pushed my out of bed several hours early.
