just being my odd self
Oct. 28th, 2004 09:54 amKnow what kind of bugs me? People who claim they're big fans of Japanese music but only listen to like 2 or 3 artists. And then when you offer them more music, they're all like "no, that's ok, I'm happy with ___." If you're like that, you're not a fan of Japanese music. You're a fan of those 2 or 3 artists. If you were a fan of Japanese music you would want to listen to more Japanese groups and find the full spectrum of what's out there. Maybe if you're a fan of Dir en Grey, you might find out there's more groups like them you like, maybe some Gazette, Berry or even Scissor or D'Espairs Ray. They're not exactly the same by any means, but they do have similarities and you might like them. Or maybe you'll find something completely different and out there and discover you love it; like Közi, the Eccentric Orchestra, Zilch or speena. If you're not going to act like a fan of Japanese music, just don't call yourself one, ok? Thanks.
Another thing that bugs me? These rock-but-not-pop people. I mean, seriously, I can understand not liking certain artists but to not even listen to them because of how they're labelled is dumb. And those that go so far as to hate artists just because they're "pop" is a little extreme. Especially since pop and rock share a lot of common elements. And yes, I will admit I had a rock-not-pop attitude for a few years, but you know something? I found artists that I liked and didn't consider to be pop at all and someone told me they hated them because they were so pop and it really made me think about that. Why is the rock genre split into so many sub-categories? There are a lot of artists that don't really fit into one category or the other. And, hell, the music store just groups it all under rock, so why can't the rest of us?
Just a thought.
Don't know about the rest of you, but I have been and plan to continue to judge on an artist by artist basis.
