Since I've been exposed to a lot of websites of late due to my classes on webselling/webmarketing, I thought I'd showcase some of the, uh,
more interesting cases I've seen.
BTWEEN $1 and FIVE: This is a website aimed at a demographic of primarily girls between the ages of 7 and 14. The special little action bits at the beginning and sounds with the site are a tad frightening, almost. However, the animations and extremely bright colour scheme do attract the eye. One major concern, from a design point of view (other than the hideous secondary colour triad done in neons) is the links to more information along the bottom. They're done in a white font over a light green background. Although, they go purple if you mouse over them.
O Zon: Again, aimed at a youth demographic. And we can see the blinding secondary colour triad colour scheme reappear. Apparantly someone thinks green-orange-purple is popular with kids. (They must,
YTV, a Canadian children's channel, uses it as well, though
Teletoon does not.) Anyone who can tell me what they're actually selling by looking at the home page gets a gold star.
Advertising Age: Probably the only thing of use I've gotten from Marketing class. This site wasn't one we looked at for its design (which is very simplistic, but serves its purpose) but rather for the information it gives. It's a preview of all the new ad campaigns and stuff that are coming out before they actually hit the markets. Always kind of cool to look at and see what people are doing.
TRENDWATCHING.COM: This site is a personal favourite, which my selling teacher likes to bring up a lot, too. It collects stories of trends in business and retail and its really cool to see what is going on around the world in advertising and products and service. Another site along this vein is
springwise.com.
MYMUSIC.COM: Is kind of cool to me for a couple reasons: 1- it's run by a Canadian and 2- the logo for the site was designed by students at my college. It's run by the same company as runs CD Warehouse (is that company in the US? *not sure*) and has a great selection of music at a really great cost.
Umn. Yeah. nutmeg has a weekend, now. Yay weekend. She has plans for this weekend, oh yes. They involve homework and webdesign.
