CD recommendation
Jan. 29th, 2005 12:08 pmI know I don't really do these very often - well, I do artists but this is different. I'd like to recommend a set of CDs which I recently puchased to anyone who enjoys Japanese Rock/Pop:
avex 15th Anniversary Compilation (disc 1, disc 2, disc 3 not released yet)
When I first saw these albums on YesAsia, I could hardly believe it. 50 songs on one CD? What? And then I went further and read the reviews, people claiming the CDs 'sucked' because the songs are only 1-2 minute clips. And admittedly, yes, if you want full songs it is a bit of a rip off. However, if you buy these CDs for the purpose it's being sold, then it is quite excellent.
This product is in celebration of 15 years of avex. They gathered a lot of their best artists' work and have arranged them in 1-2 minute clips which allow you to get a taste for the songs and see what avex has. It's a continuous play straight through the album, the only stops being the ones in the songs, themselves. The transitions between songs are well orchestrated, IMO, and the length of the samples is just enough to give you a good taste of the artist. Actually, I think these CDs would be great for a party or a long car trip, with how they're mixed.
So if you're a fan of music who loves to hear new things, or just sort of interested in the Japanese music scene, I'd highly suggest adding these albums to your collection. And if you think $24US is too much for an album like this, try the overseas versions, which are $15US. They're the Taiwan version, so you still get the original Japanese booklets but there's also mandarin (is that the right language?) inserts, too. (Obviously, this is the version cheapskate me bought. ^^;;)
For myself, I'm eagerly awaiting the release of the third one. I think these are a really fun collection. :)
P.S. There's speena on the 2nd disc. >.>
