gnutmeg: (pensive)
Over the past few weeks, I've been doing a lot of offsite stuff for work - selling CDs for artists at Alberta Scene and the Tulip Festival, downtown - and because of this I've gotten to really look at some of the buildings and such of my city that I tend to just take for granted most of the time. I dunno... just something about coming home so late that makes me want to look around and admire my surroundings.

I mean, Ottawa is a really beautiful city. Many of our government buildings are designed as castles/fortresses which is quite cool. And our parliment buildings, well known for their green roof, are undergoing a "de-oxigination" process to return them to their original copper brown. The national art gallery is this huge, glass structure that's really gorgeous. Plus, they just got a new statue out in front of it. A giant metal spider. I love it.

There's also a lot of older buildings, in general, many of which have real character.

It's also a very green city. It's even designed with "green belts" in between industrial and other zones. I mean, there's farmland a block from my house. Literally. There's also 5 grocery stores within 10 minutes, but that's beside the point.

Actually. I think I've forgotten my point, except to say that I live in a very beautiful and green city. It's not the city I was born in (which was another beautiful green city, actually) and probably won't be where I die (if I can help it) but it's definitely a place I've enjoyed living in and will continue to enjoy.
