I'm currently quite glad I'm Canadian

Hearing many not-so-happy things about the U.S. this morning. Sadly, although I did hope for better, I'm not terribly surprised.

"Welcome to the land of freedom and opportunity." Yes, where gays have the freedom not to marry. And everyone has the opportunity to parade down the street armed. Forgive the bitter sarcasm, but I really have issues with some American laws. I'm just glad none of the Americans on my flist are like some of the morons I've had the misfortune to meet.

...out of random curiousity, anyone want to tell me what "manifest destiny" means? I know, but I'm curious if anyone else does.

I agree, some American laws are stupid, I'm still royally annoyed by the no Gay marriage, also in my state Civil unions will no longer be reecognized now. *throws things*

Anyway, "Manifest Destiny" was the "God given right to expand westward into new territories" at least, that's what I remember from US history 2 years ago.

Gay marriage is legal in my provice. Yay for Canada. We are so human rights-oriented that I doubt they'd ever even try to go against that.

*nod* Something to that effect, although the definition I learned was basically that the U.S. planned to own all of North America. i.e. taking over Canada & Mexico. Part of the reason for the war in 1812 in which the white house was burned. ...and all of Montreal.
