So I'm in the shower this morning and I notice some writing on my shower and it says something about having a maximum capacity of 9.5 litres per minute. And then, being myself, I stopped to figure out about how much this is. So, assuming I take a ten minute shower every day. And, to make it simple, we'll round that 9.5 up to 10. So 10 minutes at 10 litres per minute equals 100 litres of water in one shower.
To give some of you an idea how much water that is, think of milk cartons. Milk is sold in 2L cartons. It would take 50 cartons of milk to equal the amount of water used in one shower. Think about that.
And, I don't know about the rest of you, but we drink a lot of milk in my house. So we go through about 4 cartons a week. So, to get through that 50l of milk, it would take us about 12.5 weeks. That's 3 months. 1/4 of a year.
That's a hell of a lot of liquid. And to think. That much water is wasted on me every day just to be clean when children around the world are dying from diseases contracted by bad water. I hate North American culture. Agreed, there is less disease, but is it really necessary to shower each and every day? Imagine. There are 30 000 000 people in Canada. If every one had a shower this morning, that 3 000 000 000 litres of clean, drinkable water gone. Yes, it does get recycled and cleaned in the plants and such, but think about how wasteful it is. We take water for granted.
<EDIT> For the Americans, 4 litres = 1 gallon. </EDIT>
And, on a much lighter note~

This is kinda funny, but I was also thinking water related stuff yesterday because I saw a board while I was on the bus that said we should consume less water.
And probably, you use a lot less water when showering everyday... something around 50-70 liters. I'm kinda guessing, because I know showers take a lot less water thatn baths do, and a bath is around 100-150 liters.

And I think that's really disgusting that it would cost so much. But the cost for not doing it is human lives, so which way are we better, you know? It does go along with the thoughts of what a money-centric world we live in, these days. It's possible to help, yet we don't because of loss of coin.
coin > life = very wrong

And, that is a lot of water. Especially when I take 20 minute showers when I have them o.o; But we don't have a shower now, we only have a bath, so ... I think that that's less wasteful since you use a set amount of water and it lasts ... lots longer. Uh ... yeah, that sentence didn't make sense, but you know what I'm saying.

God, that's... that's a lot of water. And to think, people in third-world countries... CHILDREN, for chrissakes, do not have clean water. They have to go and bathe in the rivers and such. Do we really know how clean those are? ;_;
We should feel lucky that we have clean water with which to take a shower.
But, again, that is a LOT of water. *Eyes boggle*

Know what else is scary? It takes about 10L (2.5 gallons) of water every time you flush a toilet.
