So I'm in the shower this morning and I notice some writing on my shower and it says something about having a maximum capacity of 9.5 litres per minute. And then, being myself, I stopped to figure out about how much this is. So, assuming I take a ten minute shower every day. And, to make it simple, we'll round that 9.5 up to 10. So 10 minutes at 10 litres per minute equals 100 litres of water in one shower.
To give some of you an idea how much water that is, think of milk cartons. Milk is sold in 2L cartons. It would take 50 cartons of milk to equal the amount of water used in one shower. Think about that.
And, I don't know about the rest of you, but we drink a lot of milk in my house. So we go through about 4 cartons a week. So, to get through that 50l of milk, it would take us about 12.5 weeks. That's 3 months. 1/4 of a year.
That's a hell of a lot of liquid. And to think. That much water is wasted on me every day just to be clean when children around the world are dying from diseases contracted by bad water. I hate North American culture. Agreed, there is less disease, but is it really necessary to shower each and every day? Imagine. There are 30 000 000 people in Canada. If every one had a shower this morning, that 3 000 000 000 litres of clean, drinkable water gone. Yes, it does get recycled and cleaned in the plants and such, but think about how wasteful it is. We take water for granted.
<EDIT> For the Americans, 4 litres = 1 gallon. </EDIT>
And, on a much lighter note~
