don't ask what communities I was surfing today, you don't want to know

Dear anyone new to any fandom,

If you have a question about something, please look it up on Google before you ask. I mean, seriously? All asking does is make you look kind of dumb... and that's not a good idea. Everyone knows that first impressions are extremely important in this world. A lot of people won't give you a second chance if you start out badly. Sure as Hell employers won't when you go for interviews. I don't care how young you are, if you're smart enough to type up a post in LiveJournal, you're smart enough to find Google and type your same question into the keyword box.

Hell, you're even more likely to get a better and more thorough answer through Google. You might even learn more than you'd originally asked for and be able to show off when you go join that community. Don't you think people would love to see a newbie who could come in and say "so I read on [site] that X is not only ____ but also ___, isn't that fascinating?" instead of "is X ____?"

It may sound incredible to you, but intellegence will never go out of style! Plus you'll be less likely to regret your actions later on, when you become older and wiser.

Sincerely,
    nutmeg

P.S. Typing to be understood is also a good thing. People can't help you if they don't know what you're saying.

Now, now, I'd disagree with you on one point. Just because someone is able to type a post into LJ doesn't necessarily mean they've got any intelligence. :D

This is true, however google is easier to use than LJ is.

Okay, wait -

Did you see THIS?!

"Konnichiwa! I'm new here and I've been a Gackt fan since 1st year college. He's my number one shaggable , rape-able bishie in my list and Gackt is my God. I love his voice and his BODY *drool* We all do right?"

From the Dears community...this particular fandom has hit its all time low. Do you honestly think these people are going to understand a word you just said?

-_- Ugh.

[identity profile] lirimaer.livejournal.com 2005-01-08 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
*sighs and rubs temples* I shall have to write a "dear hormones" post one of these days to get through to that type.

[identity profile] talillama.livejournal.com 2005-01-08 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
I saw that and made the mistake of reading it a second time, just to check that I read it right the first time.

Who the hell introduces themselves like that? @__@.

[identity profile] mihogoeth.livejournal.com 2005-01-08 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
o.o;;; omg, someone introduced themselves like that?! and that is their age?! well... them being in college.. there are a legal adult ne? Oh dear.. dumb fans anoy me.

[identity profile] 314159.livejournal.com 2005-01-08 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
xD I just grin and bear it 8D Some people are just lazy/clueless and expect to be fed things by people who do the work 8D And there's really nothing we can do about those people o_o except perhaps visualize a dream world that would be free of them 8D *sigh* :D

People can't help you if they don't know what you're saying.

Tell me about it e___e *faints*

[identity profile] lirimaer.livejournal.com 2005-01-08 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. People expect to be fed things by me. And have done so for well over a year. Sometimes I give them things, sometimes I do not. Depends how grumpy I am. Usually I just ignore them in the comm then go bitch in my own LJ - like today!

Yeah... I'm practically fluent in L337 and netspeak (it was a joke with my sister and I... we once wrote out Macbeth in L337) but still don't understand what some of these people say. It's bad.

Goodness, we have a visitor. That doesn't happen overly often. Ok, it does, but they don't usually speak up.

That would be Kana. Great music, awful voice. (Needless to say, I adore her.) My layout used to match that, too, but I get bored when they're up for more than two months.

Kana is older than I am, you know... (She's in her mid-20s.)

And, of course, that would be what the website is there for. ;)

"intellegence will never go out of style!"
well, there have been anti-intellectualism movements, and the dark age.....
sorry- i'm being a smart ass.

[identity profile] lirimaer.livejournal.com 2005-01-08 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
The dark agers thought they were being smart, though. And anti-intellectualism isn't so much against being intellegent as it is against intellectuals; those who value intellegence over all else. At least, that's my understanding of it.

One day, kids will look back and consider us to all be bass-ackwards, too, you know.

[identity profile] peachpenguin.livejournal.com 2005-01-08 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
good point.

if they look back and don't consider us to be, i'll be very disappointed. :P

[identity profile] talillama.livejournal.com 2005-01-08 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
Yes and more yes.

*nods* Bad people need to go somewhere far away.

Ah, I have enough comms and some of them are half-dead and need more love on my part as is. Besides, I like to post my random letters and such here.

Although a "letterstonoone"-type community could be quite fun. >.>

Thanks. I think.
