My understanding of how the dinosaurs died out is as follows: the continents had shifted enough that herds were migrating and spreading new diseases, which began population declines. Then a meteor struck which, aside from the death caused by the initial blast as it hit somewhere in the region of Mexico, caused massive changes in global weather patterns.

These things in combination wiped out a majority of life on the planet. Only the strongest and most adaptable species lived on.

Now, considering how much it took to kill off the dinosaurs (and to be honest, I'm a believer of the theory that certain species of dinosaurs actually evolved into birds so they didn't all die out) I would say that it would take a major act of stupid to wipe humanity out completely. Thus, it will be some result of war. Not sure if it'll be bombs or biological weapons, though.
