On the other hand... you have different fingers.

Well, the gakuhai fandom has gone into uproar upon the release of Moon Child in the US. (and Canada? Someone fill me in there.) Personally, I'm finding it hard to get terribly excited on the whole prospect.

I have yet to see the infamous movie which has spawned so many of the fans within the fandom (Personally, I liked the couple before I even knew there was a Moon Child movie.) but I have serious doubts about it. From the reviews I've been hearing, it's not that good of a movie. The only people who seemed to really enjoy it were overly-hormonal 14-16 year olds. (Not that there's anything wrong with 14-16 year olds, but I hardly think they're a good judge for how good a movie is when their favourite (really hot) singer(s) are in it, right?)

I have no doubt that I will see the movie eventually. I mean, I'd like to, just to see what all the hullabaloo is about if nothing else. Hell, I'll probably even like it, seeing as I have a thing for campy B movies. However, if I see one more person join [livejournal.com profile] gacktxhyde and start their intro post with "I love Gackt and I'm only just getting into Hyde now because he was so hot in Moon Child Oh.Em.Gee.One.One." I do think heads are going to start rolling.

THERE'S MORE TO THE FANDOM THAN JUST ONE FUCKING MOVIE. GET OVER IT.

Thank you. nutmeg's going to go over there *points* and fume quietly, now.

<EDIT> Amazon.ca has it. That means it's in Canada. (For those who don't know, Amazon.ca is one of the worst places for getting anything. Usually, one just goes to Amazon.com, as they have a better selection. Why? I'll never know, but it's all good.) But... it's $30. Holy fuck.
However, it seems Blockbuster.ca and Chapters.ca do not have it. Hmmn. </EDIT>

*nods* I could understand how it could get tiresome. I dunno... I actually enjoyed Moon Child for what it was. It could have starred two Italian mob guys and I would have enjoyed it. *shrugs* It pulled all my heartstrings; I wouldn't be a fan of the movie if it sucked.

But I agree about the community. Honestly, there are Moon Child communities out there- go fangirl in them. GacktxHyde: More Than Just a Movie. *nods*

...I'm 16, I believe my hormones are in good balance, and...I still love this film.

Yes, Gackt and Hyde ARE hot, and yes they are INSANELY talented, and yes...I love them too. But if this movie had majorly blowed (in my opinion), I wouldn't pretend to have enjoyed it.

Moon Child is one of my all-time favorite movies. Liking it or not depends on what you look for in a film. Some people think Jackass is the greatest movie EVER, while others like The Hours. It depends on YOU. Personally, to ME, this movie just had a lot of great emotions it tried to portray. It had meaning. There are parts where you're laughing at the dorky-ness of it all, and parts where you're sobbing. At least I was, but then again, I'm a very emotional person.

I know Moon Child isn't your standard, incredible Hollywood masterpiece, but I didn't find it CAMPY or silly. This movie means a lot to me, and NOT because there's a lot of Gackt/Hyde goodness in it. I may get silly about that once in awhile, but...As for the fandom, you can't hide the fact that Moon Child is really one of the main things that spurs on the GacktxHyde.

FOR KIA~

Moon Child isn't my ALL TIME FAVORITE MOVIE [that would be Legend :D], but, Kia still likes it. I don't LOVE it, I just like it, like, very much but not to the point to obsess over it or anything. ^_____^

Everybody's different I guess. Though, I kinda agree with Helayne on the ending [and Dark Innocent does too], where Gackt/Sho "dies." I couldn't cry because I thought it was a TAD bit "corny" but that's just me. XD I think many that are fans of Gackt and/or HYDE are going to automatically love ANYTHING they do, you know?? I'm not saying ALL of them, but I've seen a few that ARE like that. Or the others that can't accept change and live in the past. >____> Everyone has different tastes I guess, it's kinda funny how some absolutely ADORE the one movie that has Gackt and HYDE in it.^^; I don't adore Legend because Tom Cruise is in it.

I think many just got themselves all "hyped" up for it, or something like that. Also makes me wonder if most of them have seen it with subtitles [unlike me :D] or even watch for the characters/storyline and not just because HYDE and Gackt star in it. That's like me with "Last Quarter." I actually want to see it because of the translation I read about the manga, as it sounds REALLY interesting/something I'd like. I don't just want to see it because HYDE's in it. But yes, this is getting long. @.@

All in all, Moon Child was okay for me. I felt it moved a little too fast with the timelines, but, I guess that's what yah gotta do with a budget and what not. :\

ahh you feel my pain..and err being totally stupid duhhrrrrrrr

if you haven't seen the movie yet I would love to get it as a b/d present.but I'm lazy and I can't tell if you have it yet or not

To be completely honest, the movie itself - take away all the famous people in it and whatnot - isn't that great, but I liked it a lot. It's not campy per se, but its got its moments. Basically, you have to take it for what it is - which is a delightfully corny, cute, quirky film - and smile at it. The interaction between all the characters is to die for, really - and I don't mean just between Hyde and Gackt - which is probably the foremost reason as to why I like the movie, and the only reason to watch it.

As you have pointed out, though, I can honestly say that I never would have watched the movie had I not known who was in it. If I hadn't heard Hyde's name attached to it, I never would have given it a second thought.

Dude! I haven't, as you've said you haven't, seen the movie either~ and I'm still a HxG fan~ and I'm sure there are countless others like us who don't just like the couple because of one friggin movie. Beacuse, as you've already indicated, the fandom is not the movie, it's their real life attraction.

Lol...And the only reason I even know of the movie is cuz Hyde (and Gackt) is (are) in it. I probably would never even have considered buying a ticket had it been a Hollywood release with Hollywood actors. So let's rest assured not every one is going berserkoinsane with "OMG!!11onetwothree!11! h0tt Gacchaaaan~"

"I love Gackt and I'm only just getting into Hyde now because he was so hot in Moon Child Oh.Em.Gee.One.One."

My sincere apologies if that wasn't meant to be funny (cuz I'm laughing). ^^ Personally, I wouldn't really mind seeing a few posts that say something like "I love Hyde and I'm only just getting into Gackt now because he was so hot in Moon Child Oh.Em.Gee.One.One." Lol, but that's just me being a freak. It must be hard for you to maintain your calm and be a mod at the same time. may I be allotted this time to thank you yet again for your kind efforts at running the comm...

Ah yes. *nods*

I wont deny that the fact that Gackt & Hyde were in the movie wasn't one of the reasons I wanted to see the movie. I'd watch anything really... well, maybe except something like "Barney and the teletubbies strike back"

Ah yes. *nods*

I wont deny that the fact that Gackt & Hyde were in the movie wasn't one of the reasons I wanted to see the movie. I'd watch anything really... well, maybe except something like "Barney and the teletubbies strike back" <__< But I do honestly love the movie for what it is. Of course, everyone has their own opinions. XP

I'm glad I can say that I got into Gackt or Hyde <i>after</i> watching the movie. I've liked their music before I even realized Moon Child existed. I just sort of stumbled onto this community and the more I thought about it... the idea of GxH 'wasn't so bad' XP And I like how they interact with each other. How their characters (sho and kei) act towards each other is fictional, I know that. so i'm definitly not going to claim liking people from seeing them in a movie.

But yes, I completely agree. People going on and on about how much they like/starting to like a singer or whatever just because of how they look and other ...shallow (for lack of a better word) stuff such as that. These days I never hear my friends commenting on how much they like a singer's music. It's always stuff about how "hot they are" etc. etc.

[identity profile] drops-of-colour.livejournal.com 2004-05-19 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
that is basically what I usually assosciate with campy films.

But that's YOUR opinion, doesn't mean it's that way for others! >:O *ties you to your chair where you belong* >____> Stay. >:D

[identity profile] makotokino.livejournal.com 2004-05-19 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
mmm... I thought it was a good movie and not just for Gackt and Hyde, though it is what got me into the whole Jrock scene, it's not the only reason I liked the movie. I thought the basic plot was interesting, maybe a bit confusing at times, but it still kept my attention.

I guess that's my attempt at saying that I'm not an overly hormonal 18 year old... maybe... ok it's a lie becuase I am, but I still liked the movie for more than just the stars.

[identity profile] loveless-aura.livejournal.com 2004-05-19 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
The movie was good to watch, yes, but hearing stuff like Gackt giving Hyde flowers as a gift during the 666 tour or Hyde saying to an R+R Newsmaker interviewer, "You know Gackt-kun? I call him Gacchan," is more interesting to me than something that was scripted and lasts only in the span of 2 hours. Yeah. ^^

amazon.ca is evil. Evil beyond words. But you seem to know this. Honestly, if you do order it from them, I'd expect them to tell you it's backordered a few times before they cancel it, saying it's no longer available.

To be honset, if the movie doesn't feature hyde, I would have never watched it. Actually, I haven't had the urge to go d/l or buy it at all, until a few months ago when I finally decided to give it a try. I admit that there were touching parts and there were parts that the pretty men make me drool, but to tell the truth, it wasn't that great of a movie, so I changed my mind and decided not to buy the DVD. I don't really care much for gackt at all. I don't own a single CD of gackt, I have exactly half an mp3 that features gackt. For laruku, it has always been about the music. The pretty faces were just a plus.

Firstly~ I can honestly say that before I watched the movie, I watched the Extras DVDs. (Specifically the commentary.) And... sad to say, but I think I like the commentary more than the actual movie. I like the way that the guys talk about one another, their real interaction, no acting involved. That's the concrete foundation that the GakuHai/HaiGaku pairing should be based upon, not the two guys playing a role.

As for the movie... I liked it for the fact that it gave me more ammunition to make fun of them. XD Hyde doesn't really have a lot of funny parts/lines, but Gackt... *snickers* What can I say? I love the artists and I adore their music, but... I live to make fun of them. I do that with anyone that I love and adore. (You should know this by now~ =^^=)

Honestly, I wasn't really expecting all that much out of Moon Child. I expected to just watch two pretty men interact with "homoerotic subtext" *rolls her eyes at TLA Video* for a good two hours. I was actually shocked to discover that Gackt and Hyde aren't that bad at acting. In fact, Hyde was so... I dunno... suited for his role and he made Kei come alive. Gackt... *snorts* I laughed at him. XD I was also surprised at some of the issues that the movie put forward. I dunno if I'm the only one who caught on, or if I'm just over-analyzing the movie and its "messages," but the different issues that it brought forth interested and intrigued me. But~ I'm just weird like that. :D

Overall, Moon Child is a stupid, dorky, quirky, and silly film that I laugh at, but... it still has its touching moments. And, even though it's not my favorite movie of all time, I still liked it a lot.

Anyway, I am proud to say that I liked both Gackt and Hyde long before Moon Child ever came out. Back in seventh or eighth grade, my Japanese pen pal sent me one of Gackt's singles, so that's how I was introduced to him. (And the single didn't have a picture, so I had no clue what he looked like~ XD) And, strangely enough, I was introduced to Laruku via Rurouni Kenshin. The group did "Fourth Ave Cafe" and "Niji" for the series. And yes~ I can freely admit that I think that both artists are teh~ h0tt s3x, but... their music is more important because that's how they express themselves. Their music is who they are and it shouldn't be about their looks or how well they look together.

In regards to the stupid posters over at the community... All I have to say, nutmeg, is that you have a lot of patience. If I was a mod at the community, I would have deleted every single one of the "OMG!!! Lyike, OMG~ I saww Moon Ch!ld yestrday and I was, lyike, SOOOOOOOOOO stoked!" entries, but kept the original posts with edits of: "Hello, welcome to the GakuHai community. Unfortunately, we only accept people who actually know how to type, spell, and who can use grammar properly. Please come back when you've graduated from preschool. :D --kthanxbai."
