Well, the gakuhai fandom has gone into uproar upon the release of Moon Child in the US. (and Canada? Someone fill me in there.) Personally, I'm finding it hard to get terribly excited on the whole prospect.
I have yet to see the infamous movie which has spawned so many of the fans within the fandom (Personally, I liked the couple before I even knew there was a Moon Child movie.) but I have serious doubts about it. From the reviews I've been hearing, it's not that good of a movie. The only people who seemed to really enjoy it were overly-hormonal 14-16 year olds. (Not that there's anything wrong with 14-16 year olds, but I hardly think they're a good judge for how good a movie is when their favourite (really hot) singer(s) are in it, right?)
I have no doubt that I will see the movie eventually. I mean, I'd like to, just to see what all the hullabaloo is about if nothing else. Hell, I'll probably even like it, seeing as I have a thing for campy B movies. However, if I see one more person join
gacktxhyde and start their intro post with "I love Gackt and I'm only just getting into Hyde now because he was so hot in Moon Child Oh.Em.Gee.One.One." I do think heads are going to start rolling.
THERE'S MORE TO THE FANDOM THAN JUST ONE FUCKING MOVIE. GET OVER IT.
Thank you. nutmeg's going to go over there *points* and fume quietly, now.
<EDIT> Amazon.ca has it. That means it's in Canada. (For those who don't know, Amazon.ca is one of the worst places for getting anything. Usually, one just goes to Amazon.com, as they have a better selection. Why? I'll never know, but it's all good.) But... it's $30. Holy fuck.
However, it seems Blockbuster.ca and Chapters.ca do not have it. Hmmn. </EDIT>

on 2004-05-20 12:27 am (UTC)As for the movie... I liked it for the fact that it gave me more ammunition to make fun of them. XD Hyde doesn't really have a lot of funny parts/lines, but Gackt... *snickers* What can I say? I love the artists and I adore their music, but... I live to make fun of them. I do that with anyone that I love and adore. (You should know this by now~ =^^=)
Honestly, I wasn't really expecting all that much out of Moon Child. I expected to just watch two pretty men interact with "homoerotic subtext" *rolls her eyes at TLA Video* for a good two hours. I was actually shocked to discover that Gackt and Hyde aren't that bad at acting. In fact, Hyde was so... I dunno... suited for his role and he made Kei come alive. Gackt... *snorts* I laughed at him. XD I was also surprised at some of the issues that the movie put forward. I dunno if I'm the only one who caught on, or if I'm just over-analyzing the movie and its "messages," but the different issues that it brought forth interested and intrigued me. But~ I'm just weird like that. :D
Overall, Moon Child is a stupid, dorky, quirky, and silly film that I laugh at, but... it still has its touching moments. And, even though it's not my favorite movie of all time, I still liked it a lot.
Anyway, I am proud to say that I liked both Gackt and Hyde long before Moon Child ever came out. Back in seventh or eighth grade, my Japanese pen pal sent me one of Gackt's singles, so that's how I was introduced to him. (And the single didn't have a picture, so I had no clue what he looked like~ XD) And, strangely enough, I was introduced to Laruku via Rurouni Kenshin. The group did "Fourth Ave Cafe" and "Niji" for the series. And yes~ I can freely admit that I think that both artists are teh~ h0tt s3x, but... their music is more important because that's how they express themselves. Their music is who they are and it shouldn't be about their looks or how well they look together.
In regards to the stupid posters over at the community... All I have to say, nutmeg, is that you have a lot of patience. If I was a mod at the community, I would have deleted every single one of the "OMG!!! Lyike, OMG~ I saww Moon Ch!ld yestrday and I was, lyike, SOOOOOOOOOO stoked!" entries, but kept the original posts with edits of: "Hello, welcome to the GakuHai community. Unfortunately, we only accept people who actually know how to type, spell, and who can use grammar properly. Please come back when you've graduated from preschool. :D --kthanxbai."
