I'm glad that you've come to enjoy it for what it is as opposed to who it has, but that is unfortunately not the case with many fans and it rather irks me that people should be so fucking shallow.

'Xactly. GxH is about the artists, not the parts they played. Yes, they were very close in the movie, but that was acting. I've seen married men kiss other people's wives on film. It's fake. What we like is the actual interactions of the men, like how Hyde sent Gackt a text message on his phone to congratulate him on the day Crescent came out and such.

Yes, Gackt and Hyde ARE hot, and yes they are INSANELY talented, and yes...I love them too. But if this movie had majorly blowed (in my opinion), I wouldn't pretend to have enjoyed it.

Moon Child is one of my all-time favorite movies. Liking it or not depends on what you look for in a film. Some people think Jackass is the greatest movie EVER, while others like The Hours. It depends on YOU. Personally, to ME, this movie just had a lot of great emotions it tried to portray. It had meaning. There are parts where you're laughing at the dorky-ness of it all, and parts where you're sobbing. At least I was, but then again, I'm a very emotional person.

I know Moon Child isn't your standard, incredible Hollywood masterpiece, but I didn't find it CAMPY or silly. This movie means a lot to me, and NOT because there's a lot of Gackt/Hyde goodness in it. I may get silly about that once in awhile, but...As for the fandom, you can't hide the fact that Moon Child is really one of the main things that spurs on the GacktxHyde.

It was directed by a former pornographer and written by a man whose face is on every second bilboard in Japan. The only reason anyone ever bothered to watch the movie in the first place is because of who's in it. I can guarantee that if you had just seen the movie described and not known who was in it, you'd never have given it a second thought and passed it by.

As for the movie being the main thing that spurs on gxh, I strongly disagree. The movie is way old news. It brings in the new people, yes, but what makes them stay is the continued interaction of the two artists. Quite frankly, I'm one of the biggest pushers around for gxh and haven't even seen the movie. I think that's a pretty good proof that it's doesn't play as big of a role as some people think. The real life antics of the two together are far more important then some scripted acting. I think a lot of people forget that and just go "OMG!! Moon Child was so hot~!" Which is really a shame. I'm sure the movie has it's own virtues and such, but I'd guess about 80% of those who watch it couldn't even tell you what the plot is.

Actually I've gotten a lot of non-J Rock people interested in it based on the premise. The World of Darkness/modern-goth franchise is huge, it has a lot of fans, and Moon Child sounds exactly like something out of that setting. My husband couldn't STAND Gackt and thought Hyde was a transvestite but he gave Moon Child a try and rather enjoyed it (you've probably heard that, I'm sorry).

Please, please don't think so poorly about Moon Child because of the dumb fans. Delete their intros and try to forget about them. I thought it was going to be the stupidest attempt at a film in a long time but I was terribly impressed.

Yes, Gackt is a marketing bastard. Yes, the director worked on pornos. Yes, Hyde pimps out his own clothing line throughout the entire movie. Yes, I'm tired of OMGZ THEY'RE SO HOT too. Yes, the community is about GacktxHyde, not KeixSho. That doesn't mean that everyone involved didn't put forth a lot of effort on this film.

I believe in going into things with mediocre expectations but you sound like you're going to hate it no matter what at this point. :- (

I didn't really mean to sound like I was attacking the film, as I'm sure it has it's qualities that people will enjoy. However, I do get extremely upset at seeing people mention it so often as if it were some sort of bible for the fandom when, in truth, it's not that big of a deal.

When it all comes down to it, it's kind of like in some of the fandoms that have books and movies. The book fans will inevitibly always put down those who have only seen the movies. They feel that those people are 'surface fans' and make the fandom less because of stating things that are so bloody obvious and redundant and not trying to see more into it.

I'm sure there are those who've never heard of Gackt or Hyde that might take an interest in the movie itself, but I was referring to within the fandom. The movie wouldn't even be half as popular as it is if not for so many wanting/buying/illegally dling it just to see Gackt, Hyde or both. So many people in that comm even watched it without subtitles and that was good enough for them. They don't care about plot or characters or anything. They care about pretty boys who look good together.

Moon Child isn't my ALL TIME FAVORITE MOVIE [that would be Legend :D], but, Kia still likes it. I don't LOVE it, I just like it, like, very much but not to the point to obsess over it or anything. ^_____^

Everybody's different I guess. Though, I kinda agree with Helayne on the ending [and Dark Innocent does too], where Gackt/Sho "dies." I couldn't cry because I thought it was a TAD bit "corny" but that's just me. XD I think many that are fans of Gackt and/or HYDE are going to automatically love ANYTHING they do, you know?? I'm not saying ALL of them, but I've seen a few that ARE like that. Or the others that can't accept change and live in the past. >____> Everyone has different tastes I guess, it's kinda funny how some absolutely ADORE the one movie that has Gackt and HYDE in it.^^; I don't adore Legend because Tom Cruise is in it.

I think many just got themselves all "hyped" up for it, or something like that. Also makes me wonder if most of them have seen it with subtitles [unlike me :D] or even watch for the characters/storyline and not just because HYDE and Gackt star in it. That's like me with "Last Quarter." I actually want to see it because of the translation I read about the manga, as it sounds REALLY interesting/something I'd like. I don't just want to see it because HYDE's in it. But yes, this is getting long. @.@

All in all, Moon Child was okay for me. I felt it moved a little too fast with the timelines, but, I guess that's what yah gotta do with a budget and what not. :\

and to chip in again, I agree with Kia. XD Watching it with subtitles is a plus. :P And I'm one of those people who watched it for characters/storylines (that ended up with some massive plot holes, but that's not the point). My favorite character is Luka, and he has all of five minutes in the movie. @_@ so there you go..

I say my disappoint is w/the script- the holes in the plot.. but besides that .. I'm still impressed with it. ahahah Like everyone should have their rock idols be so multi talented

I agree about the plotholes though, and like I said, I thought it moved too fast. But I guess it had to move fast being a certain length and what not, but still, made me blink a few times when it did that.^^;

Well, you know I've read the entire plot and have seen screen caps of practically the whole movie, so I'm pretty much totally spoiled for it. Anyway, I think the movie is totally camp. Mind, camp movies can definitely hold their own charm (my example being my personal movie collection which includes such wonders as The Man Who Fell to Earth, Evil Dead 2, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show) but I think it's absolutely ridiculous how so many people within the fandom call it their favourite movie ever or some such.

*sighs* Yes. That is my major complaint. Fans who love something just because it's by the artist. I'm a huge fan of Hyde, but there's songs of his I don't like (Shining Over You) and there's Laruku songs I don't like and there's even Bowie songs I don't like. (a whole 2 of them) I think some people are just too goddamned extreme in their 'fan-ness'.

Honestly, I think I'll like it, but on the same level I like T.M.W.F.T.E. - in appreciation for an artist I enjoy's other work, and for whatever story it can offer. But I already know it won't be a favourite. (>.> Yeah. I'm a horror buff.)

Heh heh. I'm with Kia: Moon Child is NOT my favorite movie, by far. It's not a masterpiece, it's not genius. But it got me awfully emotionally involved in the characters and despite the camp, the cheese, the guns held sideways... it's just likeable, to me.

Actually, I thought that was better than him dying with flawless hair, make-up, and clothes. It was an ugly, gross death, much less romantic than it could have been.

This is true. I tell myself I'm not so bad because there are several Gackt songs I dislike (I refuse to allow Nine Spiral anywhere near my hard drive, for a vehement example), Star Wars novels I loathe with a passion, etc.

Yeah... usually I'm very patient, but we've been getting a lot of people who don't spell or use grammar at all as well as being all "OMG!!1! So HOTT!" ...and I really have to refrain from deleting every single one of their posts. (Currently, I just delete the irrelevant ones.)

And I don't have it yet, though Kei was threatening to buy me the DVD for my birthday. But... he's been off in never-never land and will be unti the 13th, so I have no idea if he still is planning to or not.

To be completely honest, the movie itself - take away all the famous people in it and whatnot - isn't that great, but I liked it a lot. It's not campy per se, but its got its moments. Basically, you have to take it for what it is - which is a delightfully corny, cute, quirky film - and smile at it. The interaction between all the characters is to die for, really - and I don't mean just between Hyde and Gackt - which is probably the foremost reason as to why I like the movie, and the only reason to watch it.

As you have pointed out, though, I can honestly say that I never would have watched the movie had I not known who was in it. If I hadn't heard Hyde's name attached to it, I never would have given it a second thought.

a delightfully corny, cute, quirky film - that is basically what I usually assosciate with campy films. Movies that are total trash but for one saving grace. Honestly, I'll probably enjoy the film, but I think it's stupid how so many people don't even realize there's more to it then "OMG gakuhainess!!11!!"

I like Japanese movies, but I tend to stick to their horror films (Ringu, Battle Royale, etc) my main interest in this is to see what other kinds of films the Japanese make. Their horror is much better than North American, so I'm intrigued by their other genres.

I guess my version of campy is a lot more souped up. You are right, though - the whole "OMG" bit is entirely ridiculous. People like that should be shot.

I prefer films like "Shall We Dance" and "Tenpopo", myself, but "Battle Royale" was awesome. Though I must say that there is no good horror film to ever come out of America, in my opinion, so I'd say just about every horror movie is better than ours.

I haven't, as you've said you haven't, seen the movie either~ and I'm still a HxG fan~ and I'm sure there are countless others like us who don't just like the couple because of one friggin movie. Beacuse, as you've already indicated, the fandom is not the movie, it's their real life attraction.

Lol...And the only reason I even know of the movie is cuz Hyde (and Gackt) is (are) in it. I probably would never even have considered buying a ticket had it been a Hollywood release with Hollywood actors. So let's rest assured not every one is going berserkoinsane with "OMG!!11onetwothree!11! h0tt Gacchaaaan~"

Personally, I'm far more interested in getting such Japanese films as Ringu, Battle Royal (1&2) and... that suicide club movie I've forgotten the name of. -_-;; I'm interested in seeing the movie mostly as an idle curiousity. I want to know, can Hyde act? I already know Gackt is about as corny an actor as he is a dancer, so I'm not really expecting a lot on that front.

Yeah... even now, I'm seriously doubting I'm going to be a big fan. I watch horror movies and fantasy anime (Aa Megami-sama, DarkStalkers, RayEarth, etc). That's about it.

It was me expressing irritation through satire. So, yes, funny. Gackt fans tend to piss me off for the most part. They need to take a breather and realize he's not the be-all-end-all of Japanese music. He's more of the gateway that allows you in to see other groups and artists. Not saying the man doesn't have talent, just saying there's a lot more out there that many of his fans don't bother to explore further as many of them do tend towards being very shallow and are happy to settle with mr-one-cool-plastic.

Hmm...that's one of the reasons I'd also like to see MC, but I'm sort of reassured that Hyde does have some acting skills, or else I can't just imagine him sucking in one movie and then being offered to work on another right after it...but I guess it could also be because of his popularity or something...ehh, who knows...

I've always been wondering this. Why is it that Gackt is so many people's first listen to J rock? Not like he's the essence of J rock or anything...not to say of course that he isn't gifted. But it's like almost every damn J rock/pop site you visit, the overwhelming majority is gushing and squeeling over Gackt.

Could be both, also the fact that he has pretty good English and the part in the other movie is of someone who is half English. Still, I'd like to see. Morbidly curious.

^^ I've cosplayed as Hsien ko/Lei Lei (English/Japanese names) before. Making my chest blue was the hardest part. ._. I still have the costume, but no recent reason to wear it.

There's lots of Gackt available, it's easy to find, and there's something out there for almost every taste. He's like marijuana, a gateway drug. Gackt was even my first... sort of. Malice Mizer, actually, but he sang with them. (Though I got a taste of Klaha-as-singer first.)

Any fan who goes so far off the deep end as to like every-single-thing an artist has made, worship them next to God(s) and/or freak out at anyone who doesn't consider them to be hot or agree with these highly biased opinions. (Diru and Gackt fans are two of the worst groups for this) People that especially irk me are Hyde fans who constantly put Gackt down. Hey, I don't like the guy much, but I don't sit here and put down his entire career. He's done good things, he does have talent, he just ain't my cup of tea, you know?

Yes, Capcom. They need to do a new DS game (that actually HAS my Hsien ko in it >:O) for the PS2. I have a copy of the original game, but not the mod chip to play it, which is sad. And... new comics is evil, as I am "teh broke".

Beast of Blood followed by Illuminati and then Forbidden (Moi dix Mois). Well, for real "JRock". Yeah. That would've been enough to scare most normal people straight out of the fandom. I've been listening idly to JPop and not really knowing what it was since I was about 13, though. (Thank you, Sailor Moon and DDR.)

I only like about 6 Gackt songs. The rest... I'll listen to, but I'm more sort of indifferent on them. Yeah. Not a huge fan at all. I'm absolutely fascinated with his personality, though. I download a lot of video clips and stuff, because he's a very interesting individual, even if I'm not a huge fan.

And don't worry, I'm quite enjoying the discussions my little rant seems to have generated. ^^;

I learned of DS actually from a Marvel vs Street Fighter game. Haven't seen the actual DS game. but I'm sure I'd love to play should a new one for PS2 come out. The comics are tempting, but seeing as I haven't the slightest clue where to buy them, I'm not to concerned with them.

Sailor Moon and DBZ are like Gackt. As you've mentioned, they're the "gateway drug." Sailor Moon was my first anime~ And DDR, God, I've just started on it...played like 5 times and I'm still on light. -_-'

Gackt's interviews cease to amaze me, that's for sure. PVs are rather interesting as well.

I've certainly enjoyed reading your views. ^^ I should shoot myself and collapse now or else that Chemistry test I'll certainly fail tomorrow morning. Turning in early tonight...gnight. ^^

I wont deny that the fact that Gackt & Hyde were in the movie wasn't one of the reasons I wanted to see the movie. I'd watch anything really... well, maybe except something like "Barney and the teletubbies strike back" <__< But I do honestly love the movie for what it is. Of course, everyone has their own opinions. XP

I'm glad I can say that I got into Gackt or Hyde <i>after</i> watching the movie. I've liked their music before I even realized Moon Child existed. I just sort of stumbled onto this community and the more I thought about it... the idea of GxH 'wasn't so bad' XP And I like how they interact with each other. How their characters (sho and kei) act towards each other is fictional, I know that. so i'm definitly not going to claim liking people from seeing them in a movie.

But yes, I completely agree. People going on and on about how much they like/starting to like a singer or whatever just because of how they look and other ...shallow (for lack of a better word) stuff such as that. These days I never hear my friends commenting on how much they like a singer's music. It's always stuff about how "hot they are" etc. etc.

Yes, I know the boys are good looking, but there's a hell of a lot more to them than that. I, personally, didn't think Hyde was all that much when I first saw him, and even in some pictures still, I'm kind of 'meh'. But I still love the man as he is an extremely talented musician. I adore his music to death. I also love to make fun of what a dork he is. Ugh. If I could, I'd just send my hands through the computer screen and smack all the really shallow fans over the head. Guess what guys? HE CAN SING! AND PLAY GUITAR! He's got more talent and intellegence in one little finger than you do in your entire "omg he is liek teh cooliez!" body. >:O

mmm... I thought it was a good movie and not just for Gackt and Hyde, though it is what got me into the whole Jrock scene, it's not the only reason I liked the movie. I thought the basic plot was interesting, maybe a bit confusing at times, but it still kept my attention.

I guess that's my attempt at saying that I'm not an overly hormonal 18 year old... maybe... ok it's a lie becuase I am, but I still liked the movie for more than just the stars.

The movie was good to watch, yes, but hearing stuff like Gackt giving Hyde flowers as a gift during the 666 tour or Hyde saying to an R+R Newsmaker interviewer, "You know Gackt-kun? I call him Gacchan," is more interesting to me than something that was scripted and lasts only in the span of 2 hours. Yeah. ^^
