it's the beginning of nothing and nothing has changed
Dude. I finally figured out what cream soda is supposed to taste like! Cream! No, not like sour cream or whipped cream or any of those, but a nice British dessert cream. More on this in a bit.
It's... been a day! (To use an old and borrowed expression.) So. I was to meet Justine at the Wetherspoon's at 1pm for lunch. No problem, normally. However the Bath Half Marathon was running today, which meant most of the bus service was diverted. You know, back home when they say that it usually means that they've changed a small portion of the route. Here, it means they cut half the fucking route off. Bad planning on my part for not checking what changes would be in effect for today. So I had to walk half the way. Except...
You guessed it, most of the normal walking paths I would take were cut off by the Bath Half Marathon! I ended up having to walk a good 10 minutes extra to get around the damn thing to get into town. So I was a little late meeting Justine. But that was ok.
We had a nice lunch. We both ordered the sunday roast: chicken, potatoes, yorkshire pudding, dressing, carrots and cabbage, peas, and gravy. Very nice, but soooo much food. Ate like... 1/2-3/4? Haha. Also got dessert (or "pudding" as Justine so cutely called it in the British way) with it. Mmmmn. Mine was "treacle sponge" and was soooo good. Kind of like a soft sponge toffee but... not at all. XD I can't even think of a North American food to compare it to. So, yeah. That was fun. And Justine insisted (yes, Sar, I almost wrote incest again. I blame you) on paying. So I told her I get to buy next time. Which there will definitely be. She's a sweetheart to hang out with. So glad I wandered into Guide Shop last December and met her.
So yes, spent an hour or so with Justine then headed home. To my delight, the marathon seemed to have ended so I could walk by normal routes (though a lot of the roads were still blocked off so no buses) to get back home.
I stopped at the Sainsbury's on the way to pick up milk and pads. First off, let me bitch about the pads. At home, I get Always overnights w/ wings and I buy the double packets that come with 56 in them. It costs me like... $5-7? Here the biggest thing I could find was a "double" pack of 20. For about $5 CAD. But at least they are my Always overnights w/ wings. (That was like... the only choice. XD) Yes, now you all know what pads I use. Deal. Also, I, uh, seemed to have picked up more than milk and pads. Two bags of Doritos (2 for 1 deal!), a basket of peaches (half price? Fuck yeah!), and a bottle of diet cream soda came home with me. I walked another chunk of the way home carrying these until I got to a stop the buses were still using and bused the rest of the way. Because milk is heavy. Yes, I'm a wuss.
I tried a glass of the cream soda when I got home. First, let me point out that I have had pop/soda/soda pop/soft drink/whatever/CARBONATED LIQUID in ages. Second, I'd just had British dessert cream with my treacle sponge. So I taste it and it's just like "oh gods, it tastes.... like cream!" obviously, North American pop companies have no idea what they're doing. It should not be pink, or somewhat fruity, or taste like mojos. (Anyone else ever encounter that?) It should taste, well more hint really, like a lovely British dessert cream. Total foodgasm.
So, yeah. It's been a day. It would've been an AMAZING day if not for the getting between places thing. nutmeg is a happy girl.
P.S. WHY IS IT A TIE?!? You guys were supposed to make my decision easier! XD
P.P.S. Yeah, I'll start working on these tonight.
P.P.P.S. Becky is my hero, but that is a rant for another time. And possibly another journal.
