Explosion in Bath.

...that's about a block from the cafe I worked at.
gnutmeg: (blonde)
My first thought when I woke up this morning? "Fuck! I Forgot to run that load of laundry I meant to!" I'm such a dork.

Anyway, I should go I've got loads (ahaha, pun intended) to do.
gnutmeg: (curled up)
So. It fit.

My whole life in England is stuck into a suitcase and a box (plus a little in a carry-on). I'm still sort of living out of the suitcase, but, this is really just so final.

Now, I'm going to go enjoy one last sunny (okay, partly cloudy) day in Bath while the people come in to look at my house. And then I'm going to call all my utilities and close off the accounts.

Tomorrow is the big, final, flat-leaving clean. And bright and early Wednesday morning, I leave for good.
gnutmeg: (bad day)
How is it only 1pm? I feel like I've been up and about and doing enough to fill at least 3 hours more than that.

I'm just buzzing with nervous energy right now. I'm twitchy, I'm nauseous, yeah that shows I'm stressed. On my second tea of the day. (Though, to be fair, I only started with the tea around 11ish when I noticed the shaking.)

I'm sitting here shredding documents (with scissors, I don't have a paper shredder here) and enjoying how calming it is.

I need to call/email all my utilities to close off the accounts. (I supposed I'd best call, but I HATE talking on the phone.) I really don't think I can handle that right now. I'll probably cry.

...I think I need a hug.

moving on

I've known for a while now, but it's finally sunk in now. I'm not going to be terribly around between Wednesday and August 10. Like maybe you'll get 2 or 3 days a week out of me. Maybe.

Gods, where did all the time go?

This is probably going to be my most expensive week in Bath, due to moving out stuffs. I'm using up what little food I've left in the house, and will have to start eating out soon.

And. Yeah. It's so over now.
gnutmeg: (brekky)
Ireland, Ireland. Where do I start? How about arrival? I got stuck in customs for over an hour, because they only had one gent working the non-EU desk. Eventually, like an hour later, they added 3 more. (*sigh!*)

My hostel in Dublin was rather nice. After checking in, I went off exploring. That was kind of fun. I saw a lot of neat buildings and statues but didn't really know what most of it was.

So, morning comes and I wander toward where I'm supposed to meet my tour group. Well. I tried to. I kind of got lost and had to ask a taxi driver for directions. But! In the end I found them and was even sort of on time. Rock!

While waiting for it to be time to go, I bumped into the girl who'd been standing in line with me at customs, and apparently she was on the same tour as me. Haha! What are the odds, eh? She was a sweet girl from South Africa. (Why are all the South Africans I meet so super sweet? I'm going to have to go there one of these days.)

And then we headed off. Our tour actually ended up having a lot of Canadians on it, so that was kind of nice for me. There were 2 girls from Ottawa (plus me), 2 from B.C., and a group of 5 from Toronto.

Umn, for more about the tour itself, just check out my facebook galleries, since it has stories to go with pictures: gallery 1, gallery 2.

Yes, I had my pint of Guinness in Ireland. And I loved all the history stuff, though it was really sad a lot of the time. (I'd have studied history if not for the memorizing dates part. Ick! I just like the story part of it.)

Well, there are a lot more things I could say. But I don't think they've really settled in my head yet. I may have to come back and post more later.

Ireland!

Since my hostel has free internet, and I seem to have gotten up a good hour before I needed to (Mostly because I woke up at like 3:30 and have been waking up/looking at the clock every half hour since.) I decided to drop everyone a line to let y'all know I'm here and safe and well.

Leaving on my tour thingy at 8AM. This computer's date and time seem to be really umn. wrong and LJ is being weird, so it might not show up properly on your lists. D:

Also, just as predicted, my dear friend mr. rag showed up this morning. Ugh. Running around Ireland while dealing with vaginal hemmhoraging will be interesting.

Also? My mobile doesn't work here! No reception at all! D: So no voice posts or texts or calls. (I wonder if it will work when I go to the Netherlands, then? I'm going to assume not.)
gnutmeg: (serenity)
I had a strange but gratifying experience today.

The bus driver recognized my accent as Canadian straight off. Hah! Not only that, but we talked about it for a bit because, it seems, he is moving to Brampton in the near future. Which probably means little to most of you, but my Ontario girls know that is quite close to home.

He was a total sweetie and it was a fun conversation. :)
gnutmeg: (pretty on the inside)
Looking at pricing for shipping things home. It's a tiny bit ridiculous. (Why is Australia so much cheaper than Canada? That's just silly.)

Have decided the best route will be probably to head out to the Mail Boxes, Etc. store here in town (which I'd completely forgotten about) and ask there since they ship through various couriers.

In other news, I've a sunburn.

Now I'm going to go upload Bath photos to facebook because it'll make me happy, goddamnit.

travelling!

parcels

gnutmeg: (eternity)
Goddamnit! I forgot to buy packing tape!

Anyway, starting the sad, sad process of packing things up to mail home to myself. 3 weeks left in Bath. That's it.

Also? This only applies to two of you, but: I couldn't find Robin at Woolworth's or Co-op (though I DID find Dr. Who and Indiana Jones...) but I've thought of a few more stores to try tomorrow.

I guess this means this is people's last chance for a UK postcard from me. If'n you want one, give me a shout. I'll screen this so you can give me addresses, too. :P
gnutmeg: (lute)
I spent much of my morning cleaning, sorting, and exchanging text messages with Becky. I need to vacuum but have not gotten to it yet, as I hate doing that so much.

My computer is an ass what with getting a virus and all. It made Firefox crash and eat all my damn bookmarks. Am not happy about this. Most of them I have at home, still, but not all. D: And home is still two months away, anyway.

...I've a month left in Bath. That's kind of depressing.

might have

Apr. 9th, 2008 03:13 pm
gnutmeg: (quirky)
So. I might have accidentally walked into HMV today between going to the bank and the grocery store. And I might have noticed that Kate Nash's Made of Bricks was on their 2 for £10 rack. So I might have picked it up. And you know how it is with those racks, so I might have picked up a Kate Bush album too. (Hounds of Love. No, I don't know when I started liking her, either.)

So I might be a rather happy girl because of those new CDs I might have. (God, collecting them is a hobby I miss so.)

I also might have picked up crumpets from the grocery. Haven't actually had one yet, so this is exciting!

And now... I might go have tea and biscuits. After that I might murder my 'R' key, which keeps popping off.

oh, food

Oh England, what have you done to me? Have I really begun to be accustomed to some of your weirder flavour combinations?

Like, cheese with jam or chutney wasn't too hard for me, and your love of stew-like things was just fine. Heck, the eggs with chips was outright good. This egg and salmon sandwich thing? Kinda weird, but I actually like it. Your obsession with adding banana, dates, mango, or rhubarb to just about everything? A little freaky, but I've come to enjoy it.

However. Don't try to addict me to either ketchup or brown sauce, though. (Especially not on eggs or fish. Ew!) It's just not going to happen. Nor is milk in my tea. Except chai which, you know, is made for milk.
gnutmeg: (drama queen)
So. Whilst I was out today I happened into a book store (it was that or the CD store, this felt slightly less dangerous) and found two books that would've cost me about $40 CAD each (plus tax - according to the price listed on the cover) if I'd gotten them at home, but I got them together for under $25 CAD. How awesome is that?

The first book, Lady Cottington's Fairy Album is a book I've wanted to buy for ages. (One of the few Brian Froud I didn't already have.) The other is a book called The Knight Triumphant by Stephen Turnbull, which just looked fascinating.

I also went out to my favourite Chinese buffet only to discover I have half the appetite I used to. (ie when I first came to Bath) So I don't get as much value out of that as I should have liked, but it was still good food at a decent price.
gnutmeg: (grr!)
Dear electric company;

I know this may come as a bit of a surprise to you, but the fact is I pay you to give me power. The three - almost four - hours I went without last night? Not fun. And the fact that it happened twice; first for an hour at 10pm and then the rest at just before 2am.
Admittedly, I don't really need to be up and sitting on the internet anymore at 2am, but I would prefer for that to be my choice not yours. And I sure as hell couldn't fall asleep afterwards until I knew the power was back on, which rather sucked on my part. (Worry fuels my insomnia like no one's business.)
You had better hope none of the three people I'd been hoping to catch last night had actually shown up or I will be super pissed off. Well, not that I'm not already pissed off, but more so.
In conclusion, do your goddamned job.

Not amused,
     nutmeg

P.S. Oh yeah, and fuck you, too.
gnutmeg: (sugar)
I saw two parents who had their little girl with them. She was two, maybe, at the oldest. They were encouraging her to jump into all the puddles. They were even finding the big ones for her, and saying things like "here, love, here's a nice one" and "big splash, big splash!"
gnutmeg: (green tea)
Dude. I finally figured out what cream soda is supposed to taste like! Cream! No, not like sour cream or whipped cream or any of those, but a nice British dessert cream. More on this in a bit.

It's... been a day! (To use an old and borrowed expression.) So. I was to meet Justine at the Wetherspoon's at 1pm for lunch. No problem, normally. However... )

So, yeah. It's been a day. It would've been an AMAZING day if not for the getting between places thing. nutmeg is a happy girl.

P.S. WHY IS IT A TIE?!? You guys were supposed to make my decision easier! XD

P.P.S. Yeah, I'll start working on these tonight.

P.P.P.S. Becky is my hero, but that is a rant for another time. And possibly another journal.
gnutmeg: (waiting for you)
The "support the independant business (wo)man!!" part of my brain is ashamed to admit that my favourite cafe here in Bath is, indeed, a corporate one. It's a little Thornton's cafe, about one of their shops. What can I say? Good drinks, good treats and a free luxury chocolate? What girl wouldn't be sold? Mind, I'm not a huge fan of chocolate but I do like one once in a while, and theirs are damned good.

For the record, I had a spiced chai latte and one of their toffee tarts, which are so rich that I may not be able to eat again ever after eating a whole one. If you ever get a chance to try one, bring a friend or don't eat all day before hand. x.x (That's what I opted for.)

So, yes, I also went out to the library and did a little shopping at the market. (My favourite veggie stand was out today and I got a crapload of broccoli and sweet potatoes for L2/$4!) Went to the post office, only to realize it closes at bloody 12:30 on Saturdays. Ah well, I'll go on Monday! I did make it to the bank, though. My money situation is pretty happy again, now that mum & dad have given me a bit of a loan. I noticed that a few of the places I gave my CV to still have "help wanted" signs but haven't called me. Boo!
