So we had an... interesting customer last night at work. She comes into the store and stands there staring at my coworker, A, who was kneeling and putting stock on the shelves. He looks up and greets her (probably the usual "hi there, can I help you find anything?").
She rolls her eyes and says "They're starting already." Then she walks over to K, who was standing at cash (and I walked by at this point so I did hear this, too.) and says (somewhat rudely) "Inform all of your coworkers that I don't want anyone to talk to me. I don't need help, I just want to browse."
Right. No problem, lady. So we're all minding our own business. I'm putting stock away and doing my regular rounds of seeing if people need help. This sometimes involves me standing on tiptoes to look over our shelves to see if I need to make my way over to the other side of the store for anyone. And then I notice dear customer standing near the cash, so I wander over there and ask if she's ready to purchase.
She looks at me, imitates my way of turning my head and says: "You look like an insincere hypocrite walking around like that. What? Do you think all us customers are little thieves like you?"
I was a little speechless. I think I managed to mumble out a "I'm sorry, I don't think so?" before making my way as quickly and politely as I could away from her. (I think someone else asked for help. I don't actually recall. I just remember being in shock.)
Pretty sure she left right after that, but it shook me pretty badly. I just wasn't at all expecting it. I sort of mentioned it casually to all my coworkers (A actually got quite mad about it) and when our assistant manager apologized for her/asked me if I was ok like 15 minutes later I actually started crying.
They let me hide in the back room until I managed to stop and my AM, to cheer me up, told me about the time the same customer called him a "racist" (he's so not) and went around the whole store to all the customers pointing at him and telling them he was.
I have no idea why she's still allowed in the store. Apparently she's like this whenever she shows up and she's never ever bought anything. I have to admit, rude people really bother me so this was just... yeah. Not a great night.

You're not a hypocrite or insincere.
