Nov. 13th, 2007 02:21 pmI'm in a much better mood today for three reasons: 1) accomplishing things 2) buying things 3) eating things.
Now to elaborate, starting with #3... banoffee!! For those of you who have never tasted this sensational combination of toffee and banana, I'm very sorry. As for me, I've always been fond of it and cannot even begin to explain how excited I was to see it in fudge form. Mmn... Also, I'm happy that my food budget for today got stretched further then it usually does. I usually give myself £10 to feed myself, and am always happy when I spend less than that. (£6.80 today) Once I have a kitchen and can cook/prepare food for myself, though, that price is going to go down a lot.
#2... I went shopping today. I haven't been doing it a lot and have been careful about what I buy. After all, I'm going to have to move it across the city to my flat, and eventually back to Canada. I will admit that I went back to the store that had those mugs and plates and when I saw they had Bowie mugs in stock again... I totally caved. I has a David Bowie mug now and you can't take it from me. (That might have been a bit of a silly buy, since it's breakable, but it is a pure love thing. Plus I was giving to charity!)
I also got myself a of these really weird mittens (as some of you may know, I've got a bit of a mitten collection) that I've seen in a number of stores here. I don't know if they're new to England or not, but they're new to me. Anyway, they're convertable. The bottom layer is black gloves, and the over layer is black and red striped gloves... but with no fingers or top or anything. It just cuts off. And people here will wear them one way or the other or together, apparently. (I've seen a few pairs of the top/fingerless mitts for sale on their own, too. They are really quite something.) I may have to get another pair or two before I leave the country.
I also got myself some holiday cards. Which I will send out just as soon as I've got myself an address to mail from...
And, finally, #1. I stopped by yet another letting agency and have set up 2 viewings for Thursday morning. The places are about £75 per month different in price, but one is like 5 minutes from downtown while the cheaper one is further away. I'm going to look up bussing costs and stuff (I've been walking since I've been here) and add that into my decision. The more expensive house is also not going to be available until early December, so that is something else that makes one consider not taking it, as I would have to stay at the YMCA for an extra two weeks... which is an extra £270...
We'll see.
I also stopped at the bank to see if they could figure out what was taking my debit card so long to get in, since it should have been in last week. The nice girl (who was also the one who opened my account in the first place) cancelled the first one, reordered it and told me she'd call when it's in. Which should be this week. Hope so, because I want to get money into my British account as it will make things much easier as far as actually buying my flat goes.
Oh, and just something that amused me. There's this one place that's a Cornish Bakeshop here that advertises all over it's windows that it serves traditional cornish and english food... and right in the window? Pizza baguettes. Haha!
