Define child? lol Anyway, until I was about 13 (we'll count my childhood ending as when I moved to Ottawa, k?) my favourite books included anything by Madeleine L'Engle, the Babysitter's Club series (I know, but we all have to have one trash novel :P), Catherine Called Birdy, Faeries, the Hobbit, the Sword of Shanara series, and basically any book I could get my hands on about Greek myths, fairy tales, or dinosaurs.
I think I was 11 or 12 when I started reading Anne Rice, 16ish for Stephen King, 19ish for Lovecraft. So yeah, I started early on high fantasy and worked my way into horror. I still love many of the books I loved as a child. Anyone really surprised I turned out as I did reading this stuff?
